Nurses celebrated National Nurses Week May 6-12 (May 12 is the birthdate of nurse icon, Florence Nightingale) all over the globe, as well as at North Country Hospital.
Last Wednesday evening, with attendance of nearly 70, guests at the East Side’s Dancing Sail celebration waited anxiously for the announcement of the Nursing Excellence Award winners. Historically, the hospital has awarded one nurse the annual accolade, but this year the committee implemented a new program to include four avenues of service, tying in to the hospital’s mission.
Pictured here are the four nursing excellence recipients: Charla Nadeau (Maternal/Child) received the “commitment to professional growth” award, Tiffany Niles (Intensive Care Unit) received the “commitment to customer service,” Bruce Muir (Medical/Surgical floor) received the “commitment to the community,” and Ellen Apple (Maternal/Child) received the “commitment to quality” award.
Brenda Neff, RN and Vice President of Patient Care Services for North Country Hospital welcomed the crowd and presented the awards. “I’ve been here a few short months and already feel like this is a family here at North Country. Our nurses are just great and I think I know everyone by name already.”
Medical Staff President, Dr. Jennifer Ladd also spoke to the group, adding “the medical staff relies on you for absolutely everything, and we have the utmost confidence in your ability to not get only get the job done, but know that you always go above and beyond. This is such a humanistic profession, and your compassion comes through every time.”
The evening was topped off with a monologue by soon retiring Dr. Peter Harris, who has the ability to take healthcare humor to a new level. He had the crowd roaring with laughter – and you know what they say, laughter is the best medicine.
Congratulations to all North Country Hospital, Derby Green, Specialty Clinic, Practice and Administrative nurses, not only for the celebration last week, but for every week over the course of the year.
