At a recent meeting of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Patient Support Program (CPS), a recommendation was made, and unanimously accepted, to appoint Ken Miller of Shelburne as the first Cancer Patient Fund Chair. No stranger to the community, Ken has been the current owner and operator of On-site SecurShred since 2000, and prior to that owned the Shelburne restaurant Amigo’s for fourteen years.
A native of Vermont, Ken was raised in Burlington. He met his wife Esther here in 1982, ten years after she came to attend the University of Vermont and adopted Vermont as her home state. Esther passed away from cancer in 2013, and it was during her illness and treatments that the family found the Cancer Patient Support Program to be an invaluable resource.
Of his appointment to the new post Ken says, “My recent personal experience with CPS has given me the opportunity to better understand our community needs related to living in a world after a cancer diagnosis, many of which are underfunded or unmet. As chair of the Cancer Patient Fund for CPS, I hope to raise awareness of the often lengthy and overwhelming challenges cancer can inflict on patients and their families.” He went on to say that he also hopes to encourage Cancer patients and their families to utilize the programs funded by CPS, while helping the organization continue its commitment to supporting current and future programs.
The Cancer Patient Support Program is an independent charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting comprehensive psycho-social services to cancer patients and their families throughout Vermont and upstate New York. The vision of CPA is that all who face Cancer can do so with dignity, confidence and serenity. Contributions to CPS make possible a range of supportive services, including psychological and nutritional counseling, and educational programs. CPS also provides emergency funding for patients who find themselves in cases of severe financial hardship due to their illness.
