The Vermont Wood Manufacturers Association (VWMA) has honored David Hurwitz of David Hurwitz Originals in Randolph, VT with the 2013 VWMA Woodworker of the Year Award.
Hurwitz has been a professional woodworker since 1988 and has a BFA in woodworking and furniture design from the School for American Craftsmen at Rochester Institute of Technology. Hurwitz has won numerous awards for his unique “Taffy” designs in his furniture and woodenware and has been featured in many industry publications, such as Fine Woodworking, Design New England, and New England Home.
Hurwitz has served on the VWMA Board of Directors for several years and participates in the Annual Vermont Fine Furniture, Woodworking & Forest Festival every year in Woodstock, Vermont. He is a member of the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers, as well as an instructor at the Vermont Woodworking School.
Teaching the next generation of woodworkers of Vermont is something that Hurwitz does with ease and the industry is thankful for the inspiration and motivation he provides to the students.
The Vermont Wood Manufacturers Association represents primary and secondary processors and related businesses statewide. VWMA's mission is to support the industry in Vermont and promote its long-term viability by expanding members presence in the marketplace, ensuring a sustainable supply of raw materials, increasing workforce skill and acting as responsible employers and community members.
