Elizabeth Wohl appointed to Vermont Board of Bar Examiners

Attorney Elizabeth Wohl of the northern New England law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC has been appointed by the Vermont Supreme Court to the Board of Bar Examiners as an associate examiner. She will begin her four-year term in January.

The sixteen member board is tasked with “fairly, impartially and thoroughly” examining applicants for admission to the Vermont Bar. The board is responsible for preparing, administering and grading the Vermont Bar Examination; receiving applications and determining whether applicants meet the requirements for admission; certifying to the Supreme Court that applicants meet the requirement of minimal professional competence and are qualified for admission under Rules of Admission; ruling on petitions for discretionary action, such as requests to interpret or waive provisions in the Rules of Admission; and making recommendations for rule changes to the Supreme Court.

An experienced litigator, Wohl represents and advises hospitals, nursing homes, home health and hospice and other health care providers in licensing, compliance, malpractice, employment and fraud and abuse matters. She has successfully handled complex informal dispute resolutions for skilled nursing facilities, provided comprehensive advice regarding Certificate of Need applications and represented health care organizations in responding to inquiries from disability rights advocates.

In addition to her newest appointment to the Board of Bar Examiners, Wohl is active in the American Health Lawyers Association and Windham County Bar Association where she coordinates the Windham County Legal Assistance Project.
