Vermont Law School graduate Alison Milbury Stone has joined the northern New England law firm of Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC. Stone will be based in the Burlington office and will practice in the firm’s Energy and Telecommunications Practice Group.
“We are excited that Alison has joined DRM. Her knowledge and experience will help the firm meet the needs of our clients in energy and telecommunications as the industry continues to grow in Vermont,” explained Energy and Telecommunications Practice Group Chairman John H. Marshall.
Before graduating cum laude from VLS in January, Stone earned a master of philosophy degree in environmental policy from Newnham College at the University of Cambridge, England, and a bachelor of arts degree from Brown University. Her experience includes an internship with the U.S. Department of State, where she researched National Environmental Policy Act issues related to the Keystone XL pipeline, organized briefings for the international visitor leadership program, and served as a contributor to the official blog of the department. Fluent in French and Swedish, she also served as a legal assistant for a leading American law firm in Stockholm, Sweden, translating legal memoranda and materials for prominent energy companies.
While at VLS, Stone served as a student trustee and as a production editor of the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law. She was the campus coordinator of the U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs program. She received several honors, including recognition as a Merit Scholar and Dean’s Scholar.
Stone is an avid and skilled hockey player. She was a member of the Brown University women’s hockey team, winning an Ivy League Championship in 2000, and a member of the AIK semi-pro team, winners of the Swedish National Championship in 2004.
