Amber L. Barber, a matrimonial and family law attorney at the northern New England law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC, has been chosen for membership in the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, a select group of attorneys recognized for excellence in litigation and superior legal skills in the areas of complex family and matrimonial law matters.
Barber, who was also recently elected president of the Vermont Bar Association, is the only attorney so recognized by the ACFTL in the state of Vermont.
“I feel grateful and humbled to be included in such an esteemed association of colleagues,” Barber said. “I look forward to working closely with fellow diplomates to advance the professional standards and values of family law.”
Formed in 1993 in an effort to bring together notable trial lawyers from across the country, the exclusive association chooses its members based on proven litigation skills and courtroom abilities. Membership is limited to just 100 of the top family law trial lawyers in the U.S., many of them bringing a range of practice backgrounds including dissolution of marriage (divorce), paternity and child abduction.
According to the ACFTL, members are “involved in the uppermost level of continuing education through the presentation of CLE programs, acting as guest speakers, participating in hands-on interactive sessions, as well as participating in the free-flow exchange of ideas and innovative concepts amongst its members.”
