Jeff Kaufer of Bennington, spa manager at Concord Pools & Spas in Latham, N.Y., has been named a “Capital Heroes” honoree by Capital Bank, a division of Chemung Canal Trust Company and NEWS10 ABC, for spearheading an effort to collect desperately needed supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims in his hometown of Long Beach, Long Island.
Kaufer and company owners encouraged businesses and individuals to drop off items at Concord’s locations in Latham, Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs. After that, Kaufer filled a large company truck, drove to Long Beach and distributed the donations to those devastated by the storm.
“Jeff is one of countless Capital Region residents who have given of their time to help those suffering in the wake of Hurricane Sandy,” said Capital Bank President Anders Tomson, explaining that volunteer firefighters, Red Cross personnel, veterinarians and students have all rallied to assist those in need. “By honoring him, we are recognizing everyone who lent a helping hand during this difficult time.”
Despite significant progress in the cleanup efforts to date, there remains a great need for cleaning supplies, toiletries, baby goods and tools, as well as children’s toys for Christmas. Visit Concord Pools and Spas on Facebook (on.fb.me/VQjsJX) to learn how you can contribute.
Launched in June 2011 by Capital Bank and NEWS10 ABC, Capital Heroes recognizes unsung individuals, some of whom volunteer at regional non-profit organizations. Each month a committee comprising Capital Bank and NEWS10 ABC staff chooses a new individual to be featured in a series of video vignettes introduced by NEWS10 ABC Anchor Christina Arangio. Nominations are currently being accepted at [email protected]. Websites for both Capital Bank and NEWS10 ABC also provide a direct link to the non-profit’s website and a method of supporting each nominated charity. To view the Capital Heroes application form and nominate your own hero, visit news10.com and click on the Capital Heroes button.
