Geoffrey A. Commons, Esq. of Northfield, Vermont, has been appointed to the role of Public Advocate. Commons received his J.D. magna cum laude from Vermont Law School in South Royalton, where he also served as Managing Editor of the Vermont Law Review. A twenty-two year veteran of the Department, Commons has been recognized by the Dean administration for his service to Vermont citizens, as well as by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for his work as an environmental educator. “Geoff brings a tremendous amount of legal knowledge of the energy and utility sectors to the role of Public Advocate,” Commissioner Miller said. “The Public Advocate's charge is to serve the public interest of all Vermonters in reliable, environmentally and economically sound provision of utility services. Geoff’s extensive legal experience makes him ideal for this important role.”
William B. Jordan of East Montpelier, Vermont, formally assumes the position of Chief Engineer for the Public Service Department. Currently serving as the Department’s Acting Chief Engineer, Jordan received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UMass Lowell, and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. According to Miller, “Bill’s engineering expertise is evidenced by his rapid advancement within the Department. He is ideally situated to assume the position of Chief Engineer.” Since joining the engineering division in 2007, Jordan has held the positions of Electrical Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer and Acting Chief Engineer/Director of Engineering. “Bill will bring a hands-on and practical approach to his role,” Miller added.
