Marc Mihaly and Elena Gustavson join VLT Board of Trustees

The Vermont Land Trust also announced today the appointment of Marc Mihaly of Montpelier and Elena Gustavson of Craftsbury to their Board of Trustees.

Marc Mihaly became the Vermont Law School’s eighth president and dean in August 2012, after serving as the school’s Director of the Environmental Law Center for the past several years. In this role, Marc helped create both the Institute for Energy and the Environment and the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems. Prior to joining the Vermont Law School, Marc and his family lived in San Francisco where he practiced environmental and social justice law for 25 years. Marc has also worked for legal aid in California and spent time in El Salvador with the Peace Corps.

Elena Gustavson joined the Center for an Agricultural Economy in June 2009. Elena has an extensive background in small business and food that took her from northern California to the rural landscape of Vermont. In December 2004, she began working for Pete Johnson of Pete's Greens, managing the business, outreach and media side of the farm as well as creating, launching and managing the farm's year-round CSA. Elena then moved on to manage the "green" kitchen at Sterling College where she introduced a budget-friendly local foods menu.

"The Vermont Land Trust has a very active, committed board of trustees,” said Eliot Orton, the current Chair of the VLT Board of Trustees. “Our goal is to conserve land for the future of Vermont so it is vital that our trustees represent all of Vermont. I am thrilled that Marc and Elena are joining us and bringing with them their individual perspective and expertise that will help VLT to thrive for generations to come."

The other Vermont Land Trust Board members include: Virginia Barlow, Deb Brighton, Heather Darby, Peter Hayden, Pete Land, Molly Lebowitz, Sarah Muyskens, Eliot Orton (Chair), Walter Poleman, John Roberts, Charlie Tipper, Susan Abbott, and Charlie Sincerbeaux.
