Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) announces the promotion of two current leaders to new positions with the company: Thomas Dunn is now the company’s Chief Operating Officer and Michele Nelson will serve as VELCO’s Vice President of Finance. The VELCO Board of Directors elected Dunn and Nelson at its August 2 meeting.
“Tom is a knowledgeable and trusted leader who consistently delivers superior results. He is uniquely qualified to build on VELCO’s accomplishments and really earned this opportunity,” said Chris Dutton, President and CEO. In his new role, Dunn will be responsible for all aspects of VELCO’s transmission service operations.
Dunn had served as Vice President of Transmission Services since 2010, and Director of Capital Projects since 2005. Prior to his arrival at VELCO in 2000, to serve as the company’s Manager of NEPOOL Relations and Project Manager, Dunn served as the Vermont Department of Public Service’s Chief of Utilities Engineering, beginning in 1992. He earned his MBA from Boston College and a BS in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He and his wife Kirsten and four daughters live in Montpelier.
“Michele’s promotion reflects her growth and accomplishments as a key member of VELCO’s management team. Her expertise in utility rate and tariff structure and how the company’s revenues impact our owners will be ever more critical as we continue to strengthen our cost management practices,” said Dutton. In Nelson’s new role, she will be in charge of all fiscal management aspects of VELCO’s operations.
Nelson has served as Treasurer since 2010, Assistant Treasurer since 2008, and Manager of Accounting since 1995. Prior to joining VELCO, she was an Internal Auditor at Central Vermont Public Service. Nelson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Vermont. She and her husband and two sons live in Rutland Town.
