CVMC employees Sarah Bache, PT and Linda Thuren, BSN, RN achieve wound care certification

Sarah Bache, PT, has been awarded her WCC® (Wound Care Certified) through the National Alliance of Wound Care (NAWC). The WCC scope of practice is performed in accordance with legislative code and scope of practice as determined by each respective professional state regulatory board.

Linda Thuren, BSN, RN was certified CWOCN by the Wound Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board, the only certification exclusively for nurses with a bachelor’s degree or higher who practice in the areas of wound, ostomy and continence.

As wound care specialists, these clinicians provide direct patient wound and skin care. They play an important role as direct care providers, educators and resources for optimum patient outcomes in wound and skin care management.

Skin and wound management includes the identification, assessment, management, prevention, and continuing evaluation of patients with alterations in skin/tissue integrity. This includes but is not limited to pressure, vascular, arterial and diabetic ulcerations, as well as skin conditions resulting from incontinence, surgical procedures and/or trauma.

Skin and Wound Management is a specialized area that focuses on overall skin care and promotion of an optimal wound environment, including prevention, therapeutic interventions and rehabilitative interventions.

The wound care program is a collaborative effort between nursing, physical therapy, nutrition, and medical staff. Jane Kimberley, MSN, RN, CWCN chairs the Wound Team Committee.
