Weston Playhouse Theatre Company celebrates new board chair

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Board of Directors last week elected Anthony C. Wood as Chair Designate. Wood will become Chair at October’s annual meeting, succeeding Wayne Granquist, who has held the chairmanship for 17 years and who will remain as an active member of the Board. Wood has been a key member of the WPTC board and its leadership since 2006 and is a longtime Weston theatre lover. His grandparents ran Connecticut’s Cherry Lawn School, which had theatrical ties to the Playhouse, and his mother, Tanya Bogoslovsky, acted at Weston in the late 1940s and early 50s.

Wood has an extensive background in philanthropy, board service and historic preservation. He is Executive Director of the Ittleson Foundation, Inc., which offers grants in the areas of environment, AIDS and mental health and provides technical assistance in such areas as strategic planning, visioning, fundraising and board training. Earlier in his career Wood worked for the Municipal Art Society of New York and NYC’s Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Granquist has chaired the WPTC Board since 1996, building a strong Board of Directors and leading the company’s growth. His vision and organizing skills led to the acquisition of the Walker Farm, site of the theatre’s planned year-round second stage. During his time with the Board, the company has become one of the leading professional theatre companies in Northern New England. The company’s recent Gala celebration and its entire 2012 season haves been dedicated to Wayne in recognition of his service. He has also had a long and varied career in government, business and philanthropy.
