Vermont Mutual Insurance Company promotes William A. Catto, CPCU to the office of President.

Vermont Mutual Insurance Company announced today that it has promoted William A. Catto, CPCU to the office of President. He will hold the dual title of President and Chief Operating Officer. Catto becomes the 15th President to serve the Vermont Mutual in the company’s 184-year history. He succeeds Thomas J. Tierney who was elected President in 1995.

As President, his wealth of experience and insight will help ensure the financial security and profitability of the Vermont Mutual Insurance Group well into the future," said Tierney, CEO and Chairman.

Catto has 39 years of experience in the property/casualty business in New England. Prior to joining the company, he was President of the Granite Mutual Insurance Company in Barre, Vermont, which affiliated with the Vermont Mutual in 1995. He has served the Vermont Mutual since that time in increasingly responsible senior management roles and was named COO in 2009. Over the years, he has served on a number of industry boards and currently chairs the Vermont Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association and Guaranty Fund Management Services, Boston, MA.
