MMIC (Mobile Medical International Corporation) President and CEO Rick Cochran was formally congratulated by the Vermont Senate for being named the Vermont and National Small Business Person of the Year at the Vermont State House in Montpelier on Thursday, February 9, 2012. MMIC is recognized as the leading manufacturer of world-class mobile medical facilities and rapidly deployable shelter systems that are used across the globe for a variety of domestic and international needs.
Rick Cochran was selected as the 2011 Small Business Person of the Year for his outstanding leadership related to MMIC’s employee growth and increase in sales, and his innovative ingenuity and contributions to the community. In 1994, Cochran founded MMIC in the basement of his home in Walden, VT with the goal of providing advanced medical care to underserved and remote locations both domestically and across the globe. By 1996, MMIC had expanded to their current St. Johnsbury, VT location and introduced the first Mobile Surgery Unit™ (MSU) to various hospitals and physician groups for clinical trials. MMIC was confronted with major financial hurdles that threatened the existence of the company, but through the dedication of Cochran and his employees MMIC was able to persevere and continue providing mobile health solutions for a number of customers including private and public hospitals, humanitarian organizations, military groups and correctional facilities. Today the company has developed into a 54-employee operation and occupies 66,000 square feet of space in St. Johnsbury, VT.
In addition to his outstanding entrepreneurship, Cochran and MMIC support numerous charitable and civic activities.
