Special Olympics Vermont welcomes Michelle Gates as Program Services Director

Michelle Gates of Westford, has joined Special Olympics Vermont as the organization’s new Program Services Director.

In this newly created role, Michelle will be responsible for developing and managing SOVT’s network of volunteers, coordinating outreach and support for local and school programs and implementing Project Unify.

Special Olympics Vermont (SOVT) believes that through sports the lives of people with intellectual disabilities are enriched and their gifts and abilities are celebrated. Whether training for an event, or competing at Summer or Winter State Games, SOVT athletes demonstrate that with dedication, hard work and desire, their dreams and goals can be reached. On and off the field, Special Olympics Vermont Athletes inspire their communities to be better, as we all bear witness to their personal achievements.

Her additional duties include leading the Athlete Leadership Program and developing relationships with corporate, civic and community groups.

Michelle holds a bachelor of business management degree from Park College. She joins Special Olympics Vermont following two years as the Managing Director of The Haunted Forrest in Williston. Prior to relocating to Vermont, Michelle was the Director of Development at Special Olympics Virginia for seven years.

“Michelle’s experience with Special Olympics coupled with her ability to manage a strong volunteer base is a huge asset for us,” said Lisa DeNatale, President/CEO for Special Olympics Vermont. “We are a volunteer-led, grassroots movement that relies on more than 2,500 volunteers each year to serve our athletes. Adding Michelle to our staff solidifies our ability as an organization to grow and extend our mission”
