Engineering Services of Vermont welcomes latest addition to growing company

Ben Moffatt joined Engineering Services of Vermont, LLC in May of 2011 as the growing company’s first full time hire. Ben was born and raised in Barre, Vermont where he attended Spaulding High School and Barre Technical Center. Along with his high school diploma he also earned a certificate in Architectural Drafting and CADD from the Barre Technical Center.

Upon graduation, Ben sought further education in the field of architectural design and engineering at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, Vermont. Ben earned his Associates of Applied Science in Architectural & Building Engineering Technology in the spring of 2009. He then decided to continue his education and returned in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree. Acting as project manager, Ben and two fellow students completed the structural design of a 30,000 square foot performing arts studio for their capstone senior project. The design was later selected by professors and acting professional engineers to represent Vermont Technical College in the 2011 Structural Engineering Institute and American Society of Civil Engineers, national student design competition. Having completed the demanding curriculum, Ben graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology in the spring of 2011.

During his time at Vermont Technical College, Ben was an active part of the campus community volunteering on, and later directing the college’s emergency medical response squad. Ben also worked for the college’s maintenance department assisting with the upkeep of the college grounds and facilities.

Throughout his college career, Ben also worked for the State of Vermont Department of Buildings & General Services where he honed his knowledge of construction documents and general design. Along with designing and preparing construction documents, Ben was also tasked with digitizing and filing more than 20,000 blueprints of all state buildings and historic sites, some dating back to the 1800s. This network of drawings is now available to engineers and designers throughout the state via digital media. Ben’s hard work and dedication at the state earned him a purple card, which is awarded to employees who go above and beyond in their service to the citizens of Vermont.

Ben is currently working towards earning his EIT (engineer in training) certificate and hopes to eventually become a professional mechanical engineer. Ben is planning to sit for his Fundamentals of Engineering exam in the spring of 2012.

Engineering Services of Vermont is proud to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic young designer join their rapidly growing company as they strive to deliver high quality design and consulting services throughout New England.
