Kelvey Richards Wilson, MD joins CVMC Emergency Department

Dr. Wilson’s world-wide travels always bring her back to central Vermont where her dad bought a farm in the Mad River Valley in 1959.

During her high school years she attended the Taft School in Connecticut and came back to the farm every summer to help with the haying. “My dad always said the family that hays together stays together,” noted Dr. Wilson.

Being down on the farm led Dr. Wilson to matriculate at the Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences where she earned her BS in International Agriculture. She then spent two years in the Peace Corps in Paraguay as an Agriculture Extensionist. Dr. Wilson studied plant sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received her Master of Science, Magna cum Laude. During her time there she worked with a gastroenterologist developing a possible plant-based treatment for Crohn’s Disease. “When I began to spend more time reading gastroenterology journals than creating a lighting system for my greenhouse, I knew it was time to step back and take a look at where my career path was taking me.”

Back in central Vermont once again, Kelvey joined the Mad River Ambulance Service and became certified as an EMT-B. She continued on to Bryn Mawr for a postbaccalaureate premed program and received her MD from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Wilson completed her Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.

“We welcome Dr. Wilson to CVMC. She has impressive credentials and deep roots in the area,” noted CVMC President and CEO July Tarr. “She will be an asset to our existing Emergency Department team.”

“After a good deal of travel and despite living in a number of different countries for extensive periods of time, I have always returned to Vermont,” said Dr. Wilson. “My husband Ken aspires to take over management of the family farm in Waitsfield, raising pigs, turkeys, chickens and Belted Galloway cows.”
