John W. Davis attends the AICPA 2011 Family Law Conference in Las Vegas

John W. Davis, CPA, CFP®, CVA with the accounting firm of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs, PLC of Williston recently attended the 2011 AICPA Family Law Conference Training Institute, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Davis completed specialized coursework on divorce valuations which included presentations on tax issues of child support, the use of tax planning in divorce settlements as well as presentations focused on reducing tax exposure and marital dissolution in tough economic times. The three-day forum spotlighted leaders and experts in business valuation, financial forensics, litigation support and tax practice, and how the convergence of these disciplines affects family law issues.
Mr. Davis’ efforts to become an expert in the arena of family law is in response to increased divorce rates and the growing need for CPAs to consult on complex financial issues related to, or resulting from, divorce proceedings. Issues include estate planning, real estate transfers, division of personal and/or business assets, alimony maintenance agreements and the financial implications of each.
