4,117 Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) members cast ballots during the annual election completed on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Results for 7 ballot items and three director elections were announced on Saturday morning at the 74th annual meeting of the VEC membership which was held at Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont.
Three positions on the VEC board of directors were up for election. In total, fifteen candidates vied for the director seats which each carry a four year term.
In VEC’s District 7, candidate Mitzi Johnson received 258 votes, while incumbent John Miller received 257 votes and George Rice received 198 votes to fill a seat on the VEC board of directors. Miller requested a recount which will be conducted in accordance with VEC bylaws and policies. The seat will remain vacant until the recount is completed.
In VEC’s Eastern Zone, incumbent George Lague received 804 votes and retained his seat on the board of directors. Three other candidates ran for this seat and results are as follows: Sam Young received 584 votes; Skip Gosselin received 328 votes; and Bill Hafer received 89 votes.
In VEC’s Western Zone, Ken Hoeppner won the election with 403 votes. Seven other candidates ran for the seat and results are as follows: Craig Kneeland received 370 votes; Candice Campbell received 275 votes; Cecil King received 260 votes; Mark Larivee received 253 votes; J.J. Laukaitis received 216 votes; Schuyler Jackson received 156 votes and Brad Schwartz received 129 votes.
