David N McGinn, currently Interim Head of School at Thetford (Vt.) Academy, has been selected as St Johnsbury Academy’s new Athletic Director, SJA Headmaster Tom Lovett announced this week. McGinn will replace current Academy Athletic Director Tom Conte, who will retire at the end of this school year after serving in the post since 1995.
A 1983 graduate of the University of Vermont, where he majored in Physical Education and was a four-year letter winner with the Catamount baseball program, McGinn served as Thetford’s Dean of Students from 1993-2007, and Assistant Head of School from 2007-2010 before being named to the Interim Head post last year. He also served as Thetford’s Athletic Director from 1996-2010, coached the school’s varsity baseball team to the Vermont Division 3 finals in 2002, led the boys basketball team to Division 3 state titles in 2002 and 2004, and directed Thetford cross country running events, including the Woods Trail Run and Vermont and New England Championships.
