Vital Communities hires Executive Director

Mary Margaret Sloan, a resident of Windsor, VT, has been hired as the Executive Director of Vital Communities, a White River Junction based nonprofit that works with citizens and organizations to create solutions to regional challenges in the areas of transportation, energy, local economy, agriculture, community leadership, and sense of place.

Mary Margaret comes to Vital Communities with more than 15 years of nonprofit experience. She holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a J.D from Villanova University. She has also taken strategic leadership courses at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Mary Margaret worked as the Northeast Regional Director and the Alumni Director at the Student Conservation Association in the Charlestown, NH office. Prior to that, Mary Margaret held various positions—including the presidency—with the American Hiking Society in Silver Spring, MD.

Mary Margaret will begin her employment on June 1, 2011, with Len Cadwallader continuing as the Executive Director through June 30, 2011.
