The University of Vermont School of Business Administration is pleased to announce that Sue Schlom has been named the full-time Career and Professional Development Advisor for the School.
“We’re extremely pleased to have a full-time career professional located right here in Kalkin Hall to assist students with improving their interviewing skills, and assisting them with their career planning and job searches,” said Interim Dean Larry Shirland, of the School of Business Administration.
Schlom has spent the past 10 years working in corporate and campus recruiting for many big name companies, including PepsiCo and Wrigley. She also worked at schools such as Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the University of Michigan reviewing resumes, conducting mock interviews, and providing resume feedback. She earned her MBA at the University of Michigan and completed her undergraduate degree at Clark University.
“I can tell you that corporate recruiters expect a certain level of competence in any candidate that they interview and any students that don’t have that basic level of competence are not going to do well in competing against students that do,” said Schlom.
Schlom will focus much of her time on upper level students to fine tune resumes, polish interview skills, and network with local businesses for internships and full-time employment. The goal is to provide every student with the confidence that the education they receive at the School of Business Administration will prepare them for their future.
“Professional development is just as important as anything they can learn academically while on campus,” said Schlom. “These skills that they’re learning will stand with them for the rest of their business careers.”
