Dr. John Daly has been a urologist for 33 years. The
key to his success? Compassion.
Urologists treat problems of the male and female urinary tract and male
reproductive organs. Taking the time to talk to patients and make them
comfortable is thus essential, says the kind-hearted caregiver, who is now
bringing that philosophy of care and his more than three decades of
experience to the Upper Valley.
Dr. Daly has joined the Twin River Health Center (formerly Twin River
Urology) in White River Junction one day a week.
Already practicing at the North Main Street clinic are long-time local
urologist Dr. Michael Curtis and experienced urology physician assistant
Nancy Blessing. The addition of Dr. Daly means urology care – in short
supply in Vermont and nationwide – is now available three days a week at
Twin River.
A New Jersey native, Dr. Daly attended the Groton School in Groton, Mass.,
earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Harvard College in Cambridge,
Mass.; and went on to earn his doctor of medicine degree from Boston
University School of Medicine.
He interned at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and then completed his
surgical residency at Harvard Fifth Surgical Service at Boston City Hospital
and his urology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He worked for more than a decade in the Boston area, primarily at Mount
Auburn Hospital, but also served on the staff of such institutions as Mass
General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals.
In 1988, Dr. Daly left Massachusetts for life and work north of the border
in Vermont and New Hampshire. He worked for five years at the Keene Clinic
and Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H., as well as at Brattleboro
Memorial Hospital. And then in 1993, he opened his own practice in
Brattleboro called Grace Urological Inc.
Dr. Daly continues to work at his private practice two days a week; is on
the medical staffs of a number of Vermont and New Hampshire hospitals; and
fills in at a Rutland urology practice occasionally as needed.
It is his relationship with Dr. Curtis of Twin River that is bringing Dr.
Daly to the Upper Valley. Dr. Curtis worked for Dr. Daly at Grace Urological
years ago.
“He was a real mentor to me, and when I completed my training and went onto
practice I worked with him for two-and-a-half years,” says Dr. Curtis of his
long-time friend. “He combines genuine compassion with competence and
experience. I learned from him something that I think is often forgotten –
that you really need to think about the whole person. I learned how to put
that concept into practice, and I’m very happy to have him join us.”
Dr. Daly lives in Brattleboro with his wife. Their two daughters are now
grown with children – four boys – of their own. Spending time with his
family and on a tractor on a farmstead he owns in Chesterfield, N.H. –
affectionately called the Hallelujah Farm – are Dr. Daly’s other passions.
