Ryosuke Kawatsuji, MD joins CVMC staff

Berlin, Vt – Dr. Ryosuke Kawatsuji recently joined the staff of

the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Central Vermont Medical Center. “In

addition to his Ivy League academic training in adult psychiatry, Dr.

Kawatsuji completed a number of elective rotations during the course of his

education that will be particularly applicable to his work in our Inpatient

Psychiatric Unit,” stated Judy Tarr, CVMC President and CEO.

“He has worked in the community at a hospital and at a mental health

center, both in New Hampshire and at the Veterans Affairs Center in White

River Junction, Vermont.”

Dr. Kawatsuji received his B.S., cum laude, from Tufts

University and went on to earn his MD at Tufts University School of

Medicine. When Dr. Kawatsuji graduated from medical school he was given the

award for achievement in the art and skill of doctor/patient relationship

and a high degree of understanding, integrity and maturity of character in

the care of the patient.

He completed his residency in General Adult Psychiatry at

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). His elective experiences

included in-patent psychiatry at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord,

community health work, serving clients with severe and persistent mental

illness at the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, New Hampshire, as

a Psychiatrist working with electroconvulsive therapy at the Veterans

Affairs Center in White River Junction, Vermont and in the sleep disorder

center and the palliative care service at DHMC.

“I wanted to stay involved in inpatient care and

electroconvulsive therapy, so CVMC seemed like the right fit for me,” said

Dr. Kawatsuji. “It suits my personality to give focused care and inpatient

psychiatry allows me to spend more time with patients than I would in an

outpatient setting.”

Dr. Kawatsuji grew up in Japan until age nine when his parents

moved to Rye, New York, where he spent the remainder of his childhood and

teenage years.

He enjoys downhill skiing, mostly at Killington, and fly

fishing and tennis during the warm weather months.
