All nine participants of a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) training program have graduated and are now employed by Fletcher Allen in either full or part time positions in inpatient areas of the hospital. To earn the LNA positions, the students participated in a unique training program offered by Fletcher Allen and Vermont HITEC.
An LNA assists patients with health care needs, daily living activities, bedside care, and basic nursing functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The pay scale for an LNA at Fletcher Allen begins at $11.23 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package, with potential future earnings up to $16.89 per hour.
The program offered three weeks of unpaid readiness training followed by five weeks of paid training and a year long apprenticeship at Fletcher Allen. All students were required to pass the State Licensing Exam to graduate from the program and remain employed.
The students had all passed their exams as of September 9th. Graduates of the program are: Erica Alonso of Middlebury, Nicole Blanchette of South Burlington, Loredana Dame of Essex Junction, Kimberly Durand of Northfield, Rose Gallagher of South Burlington, Rachel Guarino of Colchester, Kristy Jankowski of Georgia, Adrian Keyser of Burlington, and Linda Werpy of South Burlington.
