Katie L. Rich, NP recently joined Barre Internal Medicine, a member of the Central Vermont Medical Group. “CVMC is delighted to welcome this talented woman back to central Vermont and back to CVMC where she was born,” noted President and CEO Judy Tarr.
Katie grew up in Berlin, Vermont, graduating from U-32 High School. After earning an Associate of Science in Nursing, magna cum laude, at Norwich University she took her RN degree on the road as a traveling nurse. Katie worked in Connecticut and in California, returning to Vermont to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, cum laude at Norwich University.
“California was really fun in my twenties,” said Katie, “but I wanted to come back to Vermont.” While working as a nurse at CVMC, Katie earned her Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner track at the University of Vermont graduating in May 2010. She was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UVM.
When asked why she wanted to continue her studies to become a Nurse Practitioner, Katie responded that she was ready for a change. “I had some really good mentors and I could see what a difference a nurse practitioner can make. I was looking forward to having a long term relationship with patients. As an acute care nurse, I only saw patients for a day or two or three and didn’t get to know the patients.”
