The Fletcher Allen Foundation announced the appointment of six new directors to its board, effective September 1. Each director will serve a three year term. The Foundation guides Fletcher Allen’s philanthropic efforts. The new directors are:
Jan Carroll has been director of Specialty Nursing at Fletcher Allen Health Care since 2004. Prior to joining Fletcher Allen in 2002, she practiced as a certified nurse-midwife in the Burlington area for nearly 20 years. Carroll holds undergraduate degrees from Brown University and Cornell University, has a Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University and a Master of Public Health in Health Services Management from Columbia University. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Carroll and her husband, Howard Schapiro, M.D., reside in South Hero, VT.
Matthew T. Daly is a partner at Daly & Daly, P.C., a Burlington law firm specializing in business law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University and a Juris Doctor degree with honors from Vermont Law School. Daly has Bar Admissions from the State Bar of Vermont, the United States District Court of Vermont and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a member of the Vermont Bar Association. Daly is a past City of Burlington Assistant Grand Juror and a past board member of the Champlain Vocational Services and the King Street Youth Center. He resides in Burlington, VT with his wife Cecilia and their two high-school aged children.
Danielle Gilbert-Richard is a financial advisor and vice president at the Merrill Lynch Burlington, Vermont office. She joined Merrill Lynch in 2000 and is the senior financial advisor of the Haas Group at Merrill Lynch. Gilbert-Richard has earned several designations such as the Chartered Retirement Planning Councilor and Certified Financial Manager. In spring of 2010, she was named to Merrill Lynch’s prestigious Chairman’s Club. She is personally committed to raising awareness for early detection of Ovarian Cancer, in memory of her friend and business partner Mary Haas. Gilbert-Richard serves on the board of the Mary E. Haas Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Foundation and oversees the foundations yearly event. She resides in Shelburne, VT with her husband Jason, and their children, Allison and Camden.
Sylvia MacKinnon is the senior vice president and regional manager of the Wealth Management Division for the Vermont region of People’s United Bank (previously Chittenden Bank). She is a 30-year veteran in the banking industry, starting her career at Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., Singapore in 1973, transferring to the investment banking arm of Chase in Hong Kong, and then transferring to New York where she joined the Global Assets Sales Division of Chase. After relocating to Vermont in November 1988, MacKinnon joined Chittenden Bank, during which time she has held numerous management positions from retail and commercial lending within Chittenden’s Private Banking Group to the provision of fiduciary, retirement and investment services for individual, corporate and institutional clients. Her community involvement has included board positions with the Lyric Theater and the American Red Cross’s Disaster Relief arm. MacKinnon resides in Williston, VT with her husband, Larry.
Christine D. Moriarty is a Certified Financial Planner with a background in accounting and small business management. As owner of MoneyPeace, she works with individuals and small business owners to create financial peace of mind. She teaches classes at the University of Vermont, assisting those contemplating entering their own business. Moriarty earned a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Vermont, and a Masters in Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Babson College. She is a member of the Business Administration Scholastic National Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma and the Phi Beta Sigma Honorary Society. Moriarty donates her time and services to local charitable organizations. She resides in Lincoln, VT with her husband.
Brian Waxler, CPA, is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Pomerleau Real Estate. His strong financial skills, retail background, and experience in real estate bring key elements to the management of the company and its Development, Brokerage and Property Management Divisions. Waxler is currently on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington and is the former president of the board at Shelburne Craft School. He resides with his wife Alice and four children in Shelburne, VT.
