An experienced certified nurse midwife with a strong commitment to the midwifery philosophy has joined Gifford Medical Center’s robust, like-minded practice. Kathryn Saunders, who previously practiced at Central Vermont Medical Center, has joined Gifford Ob/Gyn and Midwifery in Randolph and Berlin. Saunders spent nearly six years at Central Vermont Medical Center, where she says she created and grew the nurse-midwifery practice. Previously, she was an obstetrics nurse at the same hospital. She is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery in Kentucky and also holds a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Her bachelor’s degree is in nursing from Norwich University in Northfield.
She is board certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and a member of the Vermont Chapter of the ACNM. She has also worked as a volunteer at the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic in Barre and did her clinical education to become a pediatric nurse practitioner throughout Vermont, where she has lived for the last 25 years.
She joins Gifford Ob/Gyn and Midwifery for the opportunity to work at a medical center that embraces the midwifery philosophy. Saunders describes that philosophy as caring for the whole woman and the belief that pregnancy and birth are natural processes.
