CSJ Employee to Ride Horse from Bennington to Burlington

Muffie Harvey, long-time Vermont resident, current faculty member of the College of St. Joseph, and a food service director for Fitz-Vogt & Associates, is riding her horse Molly the length of Vermont to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. Starting on June 21st from Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Muffie expects to spend two to three weeks in the saddle, finishing what she hopes is an annual ride on Church Street in Burlington. Muffie, a SVC alumna, plans on stops in Manchester, Rutland, Brandon, and Middlebury before the completion of her travels. In keeping with the educational and awareness-raising theme of her ride, Muffie plans her “Campuses for Cancer” stops at Southern Vermont College, College of St. Joseph, andMiddlebury College, before ending at the University of Vermont.

College of St. Joseph President Frank Miglorie called Muffie’s ride “admirable.”

“One person can make a difference,” Miglorie said. “Muffie is proving to all of us that if each one of us helps in our own special way, using our own talents, we really can make a difference.”

Muffie, who was fifteen when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, has been planning this trip for twenty years to honor the courage of her mother, a two-time breast cancer survivor. Muffie will be wearing pink for her ride, in honor of all those who fight and have fought against breast cancer.

Muffie’s fundraising ride will support the American Cancer Society and the Pink Ribbon Foundation, a Rutland-based agency that provides financial and logistical help to cancer victims. To support Muffie’s ride, donations can be made directly to the American Cancer Society or to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
