From Ross Powers to Andy Newell and Lindsey Jacobellis, Stratton has always been seen as a breeding ground for the best on the snow.
And the next generation looks awfully bright thanks to a fine team of Stratton coaches, who bring a select group of dedicated young athletes to new heights each and every season.
Here are just some of the many accomplishments for Stratton’s programs in 2009-10.
Stratton’s ALLEGRO program earned top marks at the 2010 U.S. National Freestyle Chapionships in Squaw Valley, going head to head against U.S. and Olympic team members. Aspen Witt made the finals both days, turning a few heads and Eliza Outtrim took second place in both days of competition. Jay Panther was the only athlete to throw a cork 1080, putting him in third place after the qualifier and eventually placing in the top 10.
Coach Brian Knowles qualified his kids for the Junior Nationals at Copper, where Perry Boyle led the way, finishing third overall and a third place finish in the skier cross event. Steven D’Agastino finished in fifth overall with performances in the skier cross and slope style and half pipe.
Dan Gillis and Lila Murray received the ‘Most Achieved’ award by coach Russel Watson for their performance throughout the 2009-10 season. Both Gillis and Murray continually trained hard with their age group, advancing technically and aggressively throughout the season.
Matt Nault and Samantha Udolf were named Highest Acheivement Award by Head Coach John Casella in the J1 and J2 categories. Weston Muench and Demi Feder, who finished fifth at the Junior Olympics in the Super G, were the J3 winners.
