New Director for Coolidge Foundation

The Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, Inc. announces that Ms. Joan Randall will join the Foundation as its Executive Director. In her new role Ms. Randall will assume the responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer and have the responsibility for implementing the Foundation’s Strategic Plan.

Ms. Randall has demonstrated leadership in managing a non-profit with strong values. Since 2000 she has been the Executive Director of the Thompson Center in Woodstock, VT. “In her new position she will promote scholarship and a deeper understanding of the contributions of Calvin Coolidge to public service, the Constitution, economy in government and ethical governance” said Robert Kirby, President of the Foundation.

Ms. Randall will orchestrate a nationwide series of symposia and educational programs tailored to promote the study and understanding of citizenship, political theory, and presidential scholarship. She will use the Foundation’s resources and staff to broaden the understanding and awareness of the American Presidency as an institution and of President Calvin Coolidge nationally. She will use modern communications and media technology to make the presidential collections and archives available to the public and scholars.

Ms. Randall elevated the Thompson Center to prominence in the State of Vermont and was named to the Senior Advisory Committee for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. As Executive Director, she has more than doubled the scope of operations by forming partnerships, recruiting and organizing over 150 volunteers and has broadened the Center’s activities and educational programs. She has an impressive record of attracting grant funding for the Center’s activities and has developed financial support for programmatic growth. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut and has done graduate work at the University of New Haven and at Harvard University.

Billings Jr. The Foundation safeguards and fosters the legacy of President Coolidge. John Coolidge preserved the Coolidge homestead in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. The Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation’s, headquarters are in Plymouth Notch, Vermont where it will occupy the President Calvin Coolidge Museum and Education Center in partnership with the State of Vermont. The Center will open and be dedicated on August 7, 2010.
