Central Vermont Medical Center recently did some minor renovations in the hospital’s main lobby to create a gallery space. Individual local artists have been invited to exhibit their work and each show will run for two months. The first show, featuring CVMC cardiologiust Mark Heitzman, opens on April 1st. The show will be open to the public when the lobby area is open, 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
“We are starting regular art exhibits at CVMC to connect local artists with the hospital and better humanize the hospital atmosphere,” stated CVMC President and CEO Judy Tarr. “ Dr. Heitzman is the perfect person to kick this off, a cardiologist at CVMC with a penchant for art.”
Dr. Heitzman has been drawing for eight years. He began when his neice gave him a set of pencils for Christmas. Prior to that, he had taken a course at the University of Vermont, learning to make art objects by welding. He has defiitively put welding aside to concentrate on drawing.
“I’m interested in found objects. I locate them in the corners of sheds, deserted industrial sites and junk shops. The more obscure their original purpose, the better.” explained Heitzman. I consider these objects to be ready made art.
He has exhibited his drawings at various galleries throughout the Northeast including galleries in Boston and New York City. He was recently exhibited in the first annual juried art show, “Wide Open” held by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in the Redhook section of Brooklyn.
