Stantec landscape architect to teach green resort development course

Stantec landscape architect Stephen Plunkard begins teaching a course on green resort development on Monday, March 8, at Green Mountain College. As part of the college’s Resort & Hospitality Management Program based at Killington Mountain Resort, the course, entitled “Green Development,” will discuss the impact of current resort operations and planned development on the surrounding environment and strategies for addressing resort-specific issues in an environmentally responsible manner.

“I’m honored and excited to be sharing what I’ve learned about sustainable resort design over the course of my career,” says Plunkard. “The class will provide an interactive, problem-solving dialogue that I hope will really help prepare these students for the types of environmental challenges they’ll face working in the hotel and hospitality industry.”

Plunkard has extensive experience in the issues facing resorts, having worked at nearly 20 ski resorts across the country. His work at these resorts ranges from master planning and program development to stormwater management and environmental management plans.

A principal in Stantec’s Planning & Landscape Architecture practice, Plunkard is based in the firm’s North Springfield, Vermont office.
