William D. Whitsell, FLMI, ACS, has recently been appointed Vice President, New Business Acquisition for National Life Group. In this role, Whitsell will be responsible for the New Business, Underwriting, and Agent Contracting functions in the Protection Division and will join the Protection Division's leadership team.
With 25 years of industry experience, Whitsell has held leadership positions at New York Life, SCOR Life Reinsurance, Great Southern Life Insurance, and ALLIED Life Insurance. Most recently, he was responsible for new business and underwriting operations for the retail distribution, AXA Advisors, for AXA-Equitable Insurance Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. Leading a team of over 200 employees for AXA-Equitable, Whitsell’s knowledge and expertise were instrumental in transforming their overall new business and underwriting processes, while being a key contributor to the company’s life strategy.

Whitsell has his FLMI, ACS, AALU, and HIAA designations, is a member of the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU), and has completed several courses in the CLU program. In addition, he has often been a featured speaker at industry underwriter events.
Whitsell will be relocating to Vermont for this new role at National Life Group.
