Interim Dean Bernard “Chip” Cole has announced the appointment of Doug Dickey as Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS).
Dan Harvey, current Assistant Dean, was appointed Assistant Dean of the Graduate College and Chief of Staff for the Vice President in July 2009. Harvey will continue as Assistant Dean at 50% in CEMS to assist with transition issues and academic unit operations until June 2010. Dickey will transition into the position working 50% this semester in the Dean's Office.
“Doug has a steadfast commitment to our college,” says Interim Dean Bernard “Chip” Cole. “My thanks go to him for his willingness to extend himself further in service to CEMS.”
“It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to work more closely with the dedicated individuals of this college in this new capacity,” says Dickey.
Dickey holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia, and holds Master's Degrees in Mathematics (UVM), Education (St. Michael's College) and Statistics (UVM). Following his undergraduate education, from 1982 to 1996, Dickey worked at Bear Sterns & Company eventually serving as Managing Director of Global Petroleum Product Training in both New York and London. He has a long-standing record of excellence in teaching both mathematics and statistics as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Dickey began teaching at UVM in 1999. He is active in the Vermont Mathematics Initiative (VMI) and is the Coordinator for the Northwest Regional MATHCOUNT Competition, an annual event designed to encourage and reward middle school students for mathematical achievement and abilities.
