Mentor Connector elects board members

The Board of Directors of The Mentor Connector announced that the following persons have been elected to board positions; They are Laurie Martin of the Vermont Country Store, Patricia Menduni, currently at the Paramount Theatre, Megan Smith, Representative to the Vermont House of Representitives from Mendon, George Cook, retired from the Department of Corrections and Sandy Cohen, retiring executive director of The Mentor Connector. The Board of Directors of The Mentor Connector serve as the policy making group responsible for the adherence of the organization to the mission of providing a mentor for every child in Rutland County who wants and needs one. Currently The Mentor Connector, in its community based mentoring program, has matched 72 adults with young people who may need a leg up either academically or socially. There are 44 mentors working with kids in site or school based programs and 340 youth matched with mentors in an independent mentoring network throughout Rutland County. New officers of the Mentor Connector are: Joseph Kraus, president, Norman Cohen, vice president, Sandy Cohen, secretary and Robert Harnish, treasurer. The board also announces the hiring of Rebecca Majoya as executive director and Patricia Lewis as mentor coordinator. Both Majoya and Lewis have been with the non-profit organization more than a year and have been gradually transitioning into the new positions.

The annual meeting of The Mentor Connector will be held at The Rutland Country Club on 8 June, 2009 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The public is invited to the meeting as are mentors, donors, supporters and friends of mentoring. Guest speaker is Deborah Markowitz, Vermont Secretary of State who will speak about her journey to her position and the mentors who helped along the way.
