CSJ hires Director of Counseling Services

Mark J. Gagnon has been appointed as the Director of Counseling Services at the College of St. Joseph and will begin April 13, 2009. He graduated from Castleton State College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Social Work and completed his Master of Social Work with a concentration in clinical social work from SUNY Albany. Gagnon will be managing all of the counseling services at the College including STEPS, a special program for students transitioning from state custody to college. Gagnon was previously employed by the State of Vermont, Office of Vermont Health Access as a Medical Social Worker where he was responsible for providing psycho-education to patients and community partners. He also coordinated patient care through intensive case management and provided crisis intervention services. Prior to this position, he worked as a Medical Social Worker for Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Gagnon has served as a Board Member on the Social Work Advisory Council at Castleton State College and has served as the Director at Large for the National Association of Social Workers, Vermont Chapter. The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation has certified him in critical incident stress management and group crisis intervention. He is also a certified chronic care professional.
