Vermont Historical Society announces appointment of new executive director

The trustees of the Vermont Historical Society have announced the appointment of Mark S. Hudson as the new Executive Director of the organization. Sarah Dopp, president of the Society's board, noted that "We are so pleased to welcome Mark Hudson as the new Executive Director of VHS! Mark comes to us from Maryland, where he has served as Executive Director of the Historical Society of Frederick County for eleven years. Under Mark's leadership, the Historical Society of Frederick County received the restigious Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Preservation and Care of Collections, and accreditation by the American Association of Museums – both are very rare for a society of that size. Mark brings well-rounded experience in all facets of leading a regional historical society, and we feel fortunate to have him join the VHS. He has the vision to lead the Society in the path of excellence at this time. Mark's experience in forming collaborations and leading teams will contribute to our increased outreach." Hudson has a Master's degree in Historical Administration and Museum Studies from the University of Kansas and a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri. His background also includes work at libraries and historical societies in Missouri and Kansas. Hudson said "I am excited about working with the Vermont Historical Society and promoting their ongoing efforts at preserving and celebrating the unique heritage of the state."
