MacLeay elected to the Board of Union Mutual of Vermont Companies

John H. “Josh” Fitzhugh, president and chief executive officer of Union Mutual of Vermont Companies, announced today that Thomas H. MacLeay has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company and New England Guaranty Insurance Company, Inc. MacLeay is the chairman of the board of National Life Group and recently retired as National Life’s president and CEO after a 32-year career with the company. MacLeay joined National Life in 1976 as a security analyst, rapidly advancing through the management ranks and serving in pivotal positions at critical times in the company’s growth and expansion. He became president and chief operating officer in 1996; in 2002 he was named chief executive officer and chairman of the board. He retired as president and CEO at the end of 2008.

Union Mutual of Vermont Companies consist of Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company and New England Guaranty Insurance Company, both headquartered in Montpelier, as well as an affiliated company, Eastern Mutual Insurance Company, located in Greenville, N.Y. The three companies write property and casualty insurance in New England and New York. Union Mutual was founded in Montpelier in 1874.
