Bennington local group launches fundraising effort for cancer patients and families, elects officer

Raising funds that remain in the local community to support patient and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis is the focus of a new organization formed last month in Bennington. The group, calling itself the Cancer Center Community Crusaders, is made up of private individuals who are dedicated to providing financial, physical, and emotional support to members of the community and their families as they strive to obtain the best cancer care and treatment possible.

The group plans to hold a major fundraising event May 31 to benefit cancer patients and their families in the communities served by Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center. The group will also allocate a portion of the funds it raises to support local and regional cancer research efforts.

The Crusaders elected their officers at their October 29 meeting, selecting Erica Rogers, Joanne Holden, and Lynn Liebe to chair the group. Liebe also will serve a secretary. Robyn Baker was appointed treasurer with assistance from Peter Brady and Cindy Marsh.

The group meets regularly for planning. All are welcome to join.
