Patent Attorney Kevin C. McGrath and patent specialist Andrew Millikin have joined the Intellectual Property practice at the northern New England law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC. McGrath and Millikin will work from the firm’s Burlington office.
“The need for more top attorneys in the patent area continues to grow,” said Lawrence H. Meier, chair of the Intellectual Property Group at DRM. “Our clients operate throughout the world, and we compete for the best IP attorneys nationwide. We have been fortunate in finding top IP legal staff who want to live and work in northern New England, and we’re pleased to welcome Kevin and Andrew to the team.”
“Hiring Kevin will help us to meet our clients’ growing needs right away,” Meier continued. “At the same time, hiring a former patent examiner with more than six years of experience adds an exciting dimension to the services we can provide under one roof for companies and individuals who need to protect and commercialize their intellectual property.”
McGrath is a registered patent attorney with prosecution and litigation experience, who served a judicial internship at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He brings six years of experience working on the design and development of nuclear reactor power systems at Lockheed Martin in Niskayuna, N.Y. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at Syracuse University and Union Graduate College before enrolling in the George Washington University Law School, where he was graduated in 2011. He was previously with the Boston firm of Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, where he drafted patent applications and trial briefs, prosecuted patents directed toward medical device and printer technologies and provided legal support for patent and trademark infringement litigation.
Millikin was a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 2006-2012. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. As an examiner, Millikin worked in diverse technology areas including telecommunications, sound synthesis, digital signal processing, analog and digital circuits, musical instruments, acoustics, hearing aids, and various Internet and computer products, including video games.
