Martha Maksym, Executive Director of United Way of Chittenden County today announced that two new staff members have joined the UWCC Team:
Susan Abell has joined UWCC as the Assistant for Community Impact and Volunteer Mobilization and comes to United Way from the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand isle Counties where she has worked for the past 17 years. A resident of Hinesburg, Susan has a background in journalism and graphic design, and is the current Vice Chair of her local library board. Susan has volunteered for Women Helping Battered Women on the hotline and as an overnight shelter worker, and she chaired the committee to build a new playground in Hinesburg. She will continue to serve the VNA as a part-time volunteer coordinator for Vermont Respite House.
Raquel Aronhime has joined United Way as a Community Impact Manager for Education and Health. A resident of Burlington, Raquel is a former project manager at Tetra Tech ARD where she supported USAID-funded local governance and infrastructure projects in Latin America, Africa and Central Europe. Prior to moving to Burlington in 2001, Raquel spent five years at the U.S. Peace Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C., first as a Country Desk Officer for South America, and later in training roles that allowed her to design and facilitate training programs for both domestic and international Peace Corps staff and volunteers. Other work experiences include teaching Spanish and French in independent schools, working with Cuban and Haitian refugees at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba and serving as an Education Peace Corps Volunteer in Slovakia.
