Vermont Symphony Orchestra honors board members and volunteers

Four members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Governing Board of Directors were honored at the recent VSO Association’s Annual Meeting. Directors stepping down from the Board include Sylvia Robison of Burlington; John Tampas of Colchester; Edwin Colodny of Burlington; and Gaetano Vicinelli of Stowe. These four directors represent 37 years of combined service.

“This strong and prominent group of Board members has been particularly active in helping the VSO to grow over the years,” says VSO Executive Director Alan Jordan. “They brought their wisdom and expertise, and enthusiasm, to our group of statewide advocates for the Orchestra. We are especially grateful for their many years of service.”

Katie Banks and Richard Nair of Lincoln were honored with the VSO Volunteer of the Year Award. Banks and Nair were co-chairs in 2011 and 2012 of Waltz Night, the VSO’s annual major fund-raising event, known as Vermont’s most elegant evening. The duo and their fantastic committee of volunteers initiated dramatic improvements to the event, including the creation of the annual Instant Wine Cellar raffle which now serves as a stand-alone activity in its fourth iteration.

The VSO’s Masterworks Series 2012/013 opens on Saturday, October 27 featuring the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Jaime Laredo conducting. Tickets are also available for “A Symphony of Whales,” a Halloween Family Concert Series to be held in Colchester, St. Albans, and St. Johnsbury, and for “The True Story of Peter and the Wolf” to be held in Bradford.
