Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP has announced that attorney Hobart F. Popick has been made a partner, and that the firm has added three new associates. “Our state-wide practice continues to expand,” said managing partner Jim Swift. “We are proud of the depth of our legal talent at all levels of experience within the firm, and we believe that this factor, plus our team-oriented approach, serves our clients well. Hobart F. Popick
Hobart joined Langrock Sperry & Wool in 2007 after practicing for four years in a large Boston firm, where he focused on commercial and employment litigation. Hobart’s practice continues to focus on litigation at Langrock Sperry & Wool, including representation of corporate and individual clients in business and employment litigation, as well as representation of individuals in civil litigation and family matters.
Prior to attending law school, Hobart worked in the mutual fund industry in Boston and also as a facilitator for professional foreign exchange programs on behalf of the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. A native of the Middlebury area,
Cara L. Cookson
Cara joined Langrock Sperry & Wool as an associate in 2010. She works primarily on family law and employment law matters, as well as civil litigation.
A graduate of Vermont Law School, Cara was a Dean’s Fellow, a Jeffords Scholar, a Student Trustee, and the Vermont Editor of the Vermont Law Review. Prior to attending law school, Cara worked for several years as a legislative aide to Senator Jim Jeffords on the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works staff. Her portfolio included Senate appropriations, Vermont projects, transportation, and federal wilderness and wildlife.
Cara grew up in Cabot and has strong Vermont ties. She has served on the Town of Cabot Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Board of Directors for the non-profit Barrister’s Bookstore in South Royalton. She is a member of the Vermont Leadership Institute Class of 2011 and is a contributor to a blog on Vermont Supreme Court issues, found atwww.scovlegal.blogspot.com.
Alexia Venafra
Alexia joined Langrock Sperry & Wool as an associate in 2010, after having managed her own law practice in San Francisco for four years. Alexia’s work at Langrock Sperry & Wool focuses primarily on estate planning and municipal law, as well as employment law and family law.
While attending Northeastern University School of Law, Alexia was a teaching assistant for the first-year legal research and writing course, received the Merit Law Scholarship for three years, and served as a law intern for the Honorable Susan Illston in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
Michele B. Patton
Michele joined Langrock Sperry & Wool as an associate in 2010. Her practice covers a wide breadth of legal areas, including family law, employment law, personal injury, and workers’ compensation matters.
A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, Michele worked for Nixon Peabody, LLP while a student. She also actively volunteered with the California Asylum Representation Clinic and Bay Area Legal Aid, advocating for domestic violence victims. She was an editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and published an article on California ballot initiatives in the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law. In 2008, she was chosen as a Herma Hill Kay Fellow for her work with domestic violence victims.
Michele currently lives in Ferrisburgh, and is active in P.E.O., a non-profit organization supporting women’s education.
