The Center for Cartoon Studies President and Co-Founder named Town of Hartford Citizen of the Year Michelle Ollie, president and co-founder of The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) in White River Junction, Vermont, was recognized as the Town of Hartford's Citizen of the Year in an awards ceremony yesterday evening at American Legion Post No. 26.
Ollie relocated from Minneapolis to the village of White River Junction in 2004 to open The Center for Cartoon Studies with cartoonist James Sturm. The American Legion and the Town recognized that for Ollie, White River Junction is more than just her place of business - it is her home. Beyond her role in opening the cartooning school that has economic impact exceeded $5 Million thus far, Ollie has become involved in the successful revitalization of downtown White River Junction.
The Center For Cartoon Studies (CCS) is America's premiere cartooning school and studio located in the historic village of White River Junction, Vermont. CCS programs include a two-year Master of Fine Arts Degree, One-and Two-Year Certificates in Cartooning, and annual summer workshops. Faculty and visiting artists include many of today's most celebrated cartoonists. CCS has received national acclaim for its work and prominent mention in The New York Times, The Boston Globe (Best Idea of Recipient for 2006), The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and other publications.
For her commitment, leadership, and optimism for the future of White River Junction, and for her efforts that have brought local, regional, and national recognition to the village and the Town of Hartford, Michelle Ollie was named Citizen of the Year on June 11, 2009.
