Law firm announces new partners

Shems Dunkiel Kassel & Saunders has announced that Eileen I. Elliott and Geoffrey H. Hand were recently made partners in the firm.

Eileen I. Elliott covers the complex and expanding field of health care law, including state and federal regulatory compliance, litigation, corporate and commercial issues, organizational governance and governmental relations. Elliott serves as counsel to a variety of health care providers and human services organizations, handling their personnel, contractual, compliance and general legal issues. Eileen was extensively involved in health care legal and public policy issues during her tenure with the State of Vermont, and most recently serving as the Deputy Secretary of the Agency of Human Services (2003-2005).

Geoffrey H. Hand has extensive experience in state and federal environmental litigation, renewable energy development and regulation, and land use law. He has handled permitting for several commercial-scale renewable energy projects and has litigated numerous cases before the Vermont Environmental Court, the Vermont Public Service Board, and in Federal Courts around the country. Hand has also successfully argued cases before the Vermont Supreme Court involving Act 250, Vermont’s land use development law, and Section 248, Vermont’s energy development law.

Both partners provide advice and counsel to municipal entities and non-profit groups on complex regulatory matters.
