End: 03/20/2014 - 1:00pm
On March 20, from noon until 1:00 pm, the Vermont Historical Society will host Joseph Mender, manager of the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial historic site in Sharon, Vermont, as he explores the lives of early Mormon church leaders.
“Joseph Mender will discuss the birth and heritage of Joseph Smith,” says Vermont Historical Society’s Public Programs Coordinator, Amanda Gustin.“Smith was the founder and leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” Mender will also speak about Brigham Young, who followed Smith as leader of the church and became a great pioneer of the western frontier. Known as the “Lion of the Lord,” Young was born in Whitingham, Vermont. Their early history in Vermont intersects with periods of social, political, and environmental upheaval in our state.
Continuing monthly through May, the Vermont Historical Society will offer presentations about historic topics over the lunch hour at the Vermont History Museum at 109 State Street. The presentations are free, and the site is handicapped accessible. Bring your bag lunch and participate in the talk.
Talks will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Snelling Room at the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier. For more information, please visit vermonthistory.org or contact Amanda Gustin at[email protected] or (802) 828-2180.
