Sing We Now Noel, a celebration of Christmas Carols and Seasonal Songs, will take place on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Saint Michael's College Chapel. Professor William Tortolano, Emeritus Professor and College Organist, will present the 62nd annual festive concert with the classic two manual, 14 stop Casavant pipe organ in the acoustically acclaimed Chapel.
The program is designed to cover a variety of musical compositions to encourage the audience to participate. Among the compositions are carols from several countries, including Austria, England, France, Portugal and American traditions. These will include American music, including The Little Drummer Boy; Go Tell It On the Mountain; Vermont’s carol, We Three Kings.
Jerry Proulx, a St. Michael’s graduate, with extensive theater credentials, will sing the famous Italian carol, Tu Scendi Dalle Stelle, in Italian.
The organ was designed in 1966, and dedicated Dr. Tortolano. He will play organ compositions by Pietro Yon, Pachelbel, Bach, Brahms, and Rowley.
A fifty year faculty member, “Dr. T.”, holds degrees from Boston University, The New England Conservatory of Music, and his Doctorate from L’Université de Montréal. He was a visiting Fellow at four different Colleges at Cambridge University, and held a Fellowship at Yale University.
92 year old Tortolano will continue the tradition of the Saint Michael's College carol concerts. (Hopefully!)
An optional free-will offering will be available.
