Upcoming Workshop
The Importance of Representation in Media
Tuesday, April 5, 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Join VBSR and Akshata Nayak, Founder of Little Patakha and nutritionist at Alternative Roots Wellness Center, for a virtual workshop on The Importance of Representation in Media. With a scientific, data-based, and personal approach, Akshata will discuss cultural competency, empathy and representation in media, the psychological effect of media on children, and will answer the question “Why is it important to have representation in media?”
Meet Our Presenter, Akshata Nayak
In 2020, Akshata wanted to design a book so her daughter could learn her native language, Konkani. This single idea blossomed into Little Patakha, a woman-owned business that helps young minds discover a world of different cultures, stories and ideas. As holder of two Master of Science degrees, in Biochemistry and Applied Clinical Nutrition, a woman and BIPOC business owner, and a mom, Akshata offers a unique perspective on the importance of accurate and altruistic representation in media through the eyes of a business patron as well as a business owner.
Details will be sent to all who register in advance of the event.
