Vermont students to compete in 3D modeling event, March 29

Who: Vermont students, Deputy Secretary of Education Heather Bouchey and representatives from the offices of Sens. Leahy and Sanders.

Participating schools: Castleton Village School, Hartford High School, Manchester Middle School, Maple Run School District, Mater Christi Middle School, Proctor High School, Riverside Middle School, Rutland High School, Williston Central School and Windsor High School.

What: The 5th Annual 3D Vermont Olympiad of Architectural History

Where: Judd Hall at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT

When: Friday, March 29, 2019 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; speakers between 8:30 a.m-9:15 a.m.

The 3D Vermont Olympiad of Architectural History challenges high school and middle school students from around the state to work in teams to create printed 3D models of historical buildings in their area. In the process they uncover and document the history of the buildings and create a presentation to accompany their models. The models and presentations will be judged for technical mastery, architectural accuracy and historical research.

Press are encouraged to attend and students may be available for interview throughout the morning.

Speakers include Deputy Secretary of Education Heather Bouchey, Josh Hanford, Deputy Commissioner of the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation, , Katarina Lisaius, from the office of Senator Bernie Sanders, Pollaidh Major, from the office of Senator Pat Leahy,  and Steven M. Airoldi, Director of VAST, from Vermont Technical College.

Students will place their models on a Vermont map that will be on the floor of the gymnasium. Speakers will address the group early, and judging will take place over the course of the morning.
